Graduation & Last day of school 6/12/14

Graduation is quickly approaching! The kids will be getting graduation t-shirts and yearbooks free of cost. The shirts will be royal blue with white designs. In my opinion, the students should save the signing for their yearbook and not write all over their graduation shirts. If you are okay with your child having their friends sign their shirts please let them or me know. I would prefer they save the signatures and messages for their yearbook so they an keep their shirts nice.
They will get their yearbooks and t shirts at graduation on the 12th of June.  There will also be a refreshments after graduation. You will have an opportunity to stay for a bit after graduation to take pictures and enjoy some snacks with your child. If you plan to dismiss them your child for the day after graduation you have to go to the office and sign them out. Please let me know in advance so I can have them all packed up and their report card ready.
We will be having a celebration in class on the last day if your child chooses to stay. We will send home a sheet to write if you would like to sent in a treat. There will also be the fifth grade clap out in the afternoon on the last day. Any questions feel free to email me with any questions!!

Non-Fiction Report and Reading Logs

                                                        NON-FICTION REPORTS

The state reports are the first part of our non-fiction study that we did as a class. We are also going to be doing individual non-fiction reports. The kids are going to be choosing their OWN topic to report on. They have begun to decide their topic and map out their report. This will be an in class assignment and will be put out for your to review and take at the end of the year at Literacy Night. Please inquire about what topic they chose and help them discuss what they are going to write about.

                                                           READING LOGS

ALSO PLEASE REMIND YOUR CHILD TO CONTINUE TO FILL OUT THEIR READING LOG, PARENT/GUARDIAN SIGNATURE, AND RETURN WEEKLY!! WE ARE HAVING A SCHOOL-WIDE CONTEST AND OUR HOT AIR BALLOON HAS NOT MADE THE PROGRESS I HAD HOPED, BECAUSE LACK OF STUDENTS RETURNING THEIR BOOK LOGS. 30 MINUTES OF READING NIGHTLY CAN IMPROVE YOUR CHILDS READING GREATLY!!

Reading Logs

As a school, we are trying remind the students of the importance of reading at home. As 5th graders, they should be reading 30 minutes a day at home. They also have a reading log to be completed daily and signed by a parent or guardian. When they complete, and return their log they get a HW pass and free pizza slip. Please ask your child to show you their log and be sure to sign it. They also have a class balloon in the lobby of the first floor that only goes up in height if the majority of the class turns in reading logs on a regular basis.

Thank you all for your continued support toward our class goals and your child's educational future!!

                                         :)   Mrs. Laughlin
